A concert for Justice and Peace

    ITHAKA
THE JOURNEY OF A MODERN ULYSSES

    music composed by Cristiana Pegoraro

    WORLD PREMIERE

    Also featured:
Vivaldi Fantasy on The Four Seasons
Rossini Overture to Il Barbiere di Siviglia and L’italiana in Algeri
    (Piano transcriptions by Cristiana Pegoraro)

Considered to be among the most interesting and versatile performers of her generation, Italian-born pianist and composer Cristiana Pegoraro returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall with the world premiere of her composition set ITHAKA.
The music is inspired by the poem ITHAKA by the great Greek poet Constantinos Petrou Kavafis (1863-1933) who compares the voyage of Ulysses to the journey of our lives. Like Ulysses voyage, so man’s voyage is rich in discoveries and adventures, goals to reach and lessons to learn. The most important thing is not to reach the goal, but everything we learn along the way.
Each of the 11 musical pieces composed by Cristiana Pegoraro represents an important step of our life: the departure, the expectation, the passion, the choice, the discovery, the sensuality, the knowledge, the destiny, the understanding, the journey, the wisdom.
ITHAKA by Cristiana Pegoraro was born from the need to unite people belonging to the diverse cultures, regions and traditions from the Mediterranean; a Mediterranean as a place with a potential to express solidarity, welcome and friendship, and as a warrant for peace among the peoples; a sea which unifies instead of dividing, and a symbol of a world-wide dialogue and understanding in histories which are different, but which are all about the same universal subject: Mankind.

This innovating program also features the world premiere of her Fantasy on Vivaldi The Four Seasons and her own transcriptions for piano of the famous Overtures Il Barbiere di Siviglia and L’Italiana in Algeri by Rossini.
